You can register online for your room at the Hyatt for Matsuricon!

https://resweb.passkey.com/go/Matsuricon2012

Rooms are $113 per night!  It's worth it to stay at the con hotel -- beats driving/walking/running/crawling back to your hotel after a full day of convention hopping!

Happy reserving!

So true.  If you haven't stayed at a con then you haven't been to that con.

Out of curiosity, how come the Hyatt doesn't list its fancier rooms online?  Calling the hotel to book sounds like something from the dark ages.

Today we can book hotel rooms by phone, but.it doesn't involve calling, if you know what I mean Wink

I think we only run single and double bed rooms as available for booking in our contract. The fancier suites on 5 and 20 are not usually available at discounted rates for groups unless you book over a certain percentage (say 60% or more) of the rooms in the hotel.

You can still reserve them normally, they are just outside our room block.

Do you happen to know on which floors the matsuricon room block is?

Last year I believe that I was on floor 7 (I'm also sure that I wasn't in the room block as I booked when the block closed, and right after than more rooms were added to it) and that was pretty nice as it meant that I didn't have to use the elevators.

there's only ~45 rooms per floor, so we're spread out all over the hotel. I think they normally put groups like ours in the 5-12 floors, but I'm sure there's some people scattered throughout 5-20 at random.

So even though the room block is a virtual group of rooms rather than a physical cluster of them, if I don't book through the link provided I can't enter into the block?  Interesting.

Though this makes me curious as to just how big the matsuricon room block is.

you can enter the block by using our group code with the phone reservations as well as online. It's virtual because the hotel needs to count how many room nights we've sold to apply our discount to our meeting space.

There's always people that come to cons that stay outside the block (or at another hotel). What they don't realize is that the more people do that, the more it hurts the con, and results in rate increases later in registration.

The exception to this is large cons that are in non-hotel convention centers. Then the "perk" for selling rooms in surrounding hotel blocks is usually free room nights, which are usually applied to a guest/staff block.
