Oh, vrmlbasic. You have no idea what is being dealt with, do you? You see, because Zyvernia specifically used the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic opening as a clue, he has sown a very powerful seed. If Matsuricon gets any, and I mean any (especially any of the main six characters who are referred to as the "Mane Six"), cast member from that show, the attention and attendance for this convention will grow exponentially. It's a guarantee.

I rage against my little pony. As a male who is in touch with his Y chromosome, I must.
Why can't the childrens' show beloved by the internets due to its alleged adult themes (I still think it is for creepy deviants, but I'm no psych expert) be The Legend of Korra? Whhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyy!
From gundam and death note to the creepy horse show. That's a tragic career for our.mystery guest.

The number of recognizable VAs that have had/do have roles in MLP is actually somewhat terrifying. Go through IMDB and take a look at some of the people who've done one-off voices and such. It's insane.

That makes sense as the fandom of the show is itself insane. Is this a hint that our mystery guest is a bit character in this show? I'm starting to think that this might be the "not known for anime" guest after all. Maybe if the art to the show was more realistic, or at least less neon, it could be more palatable? I'd say that it'd be even better if it weren't about ponies, but I'm convinced that the internet only likes it because they are ponies. I've lived in Severna Park, MD and not even that can get me into this show. Does booze help, is that what you guys are using?

I'd be scared if ponies draw more people to matsuricon than the current guest list which even includes ludicrously popular guests like Haberkorn. Ponies overpowering the lead character from the giant slash fest that is Hetalia?! I didn't think that any force at an anime con was greater than that of yaoi-crazed fangirls. I think Genshiken said something to that effect. I don't think I could stand it if there were an actor who had great roles in gundam and death note who then ended up being more famous, as per your post he would be, for being a crudely drawn neon pony. Luckily I haven't heard of most of the guest guesses herein. Whew. Also, "mane six"? Srsly?

I'm not sure you can disappoint. I lived through Josh Grelle at 2 cons, despite his raging brony-ness. Come to think, just because the guest was in mlp doesn't mean that the guest is a raging fan of the series. Brad Swaile wasn't a raging fan of the mlp series that he was in, which gives me hope for the mystery guest. Even if the mystery guest is a brony (or whatever the female equivalent is) I don't think he could be more a raging fan than Grelle.

I find it odd that you're comparing My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic to The Legend of Korra. That's like comparing apples to oranges. For one thing, The Legend of Korra is only beginning its upward trajectory with only the third episode being aired last Saturday. Meanwhile, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has just finished its second season with a total of 52 episodes aired, so its trajectory has been well established over the course of two years. Also, while The Legend of Korra is being embraced rather well (from ratings courtesy of AvatarSpirit.net), the show still has to go through a trial by fire similar to Friendship is Magic. While Friendship is Magic had to contend with the franchise's +25 year history of asininity, The Legend of Korra has to deal with the damage left in the wake of by M. Night Shyamalan's film adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. (I still vehemently refuse to see it. I haven't seen it, nor will I ever see it.) Not to mention the fact that while Korra exists in the same universe as it's parent show, it will have a completely different rhythm that will take time to get used to (think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer vs. Angel). So, you see, The Legend of Korra will get its groove. It just needs time. That's all. And just think, after this reveal - we are not done. I hope we don't disappoint. How exciting.

? I'm not trying to compare the 2 shows, I'm just lamenting that the childrens' show that is massively popular in the anime fan community is one that I find utterly unwatchable. Korra, or the original if you prefer, isn't perfect (far from it) but I find it infinitely more watchable. Though I do find it interesting that the brony's claim for why mlp is so popular, the "surprisingly mature and adult writing in a kids show", could also be made for avatar. Yet avatar doesn't get anywhere near as much fan love. Which brings me back to my theory that the low-grade neon art and an unhealthy attraction to ponies being the real reason people watch this, at least when sober. Are you sure that this isn't ren & stimpy for a new generation?

I was referencing the show for its legend of being watched by people who are in an altered state of consciousness (ahem), but you knew that already, didn't you? So then, why is mlp so highly regarded?

I just hope you aren't done with guests. I haven't been impressed yet with the list at all, like last year. It's still a shame that Veronica can't come back.

So then, why is mlp so highly regarded? Well, I'll answer the best I can. You can take it or leave it. The talent assembled by Friendship is Magic developer Lauren Faust consistently goes above and beyond in every department. Even crew members who normally don't get praise from the general public get constant praise from the fanbase every day. It contains entertaining and memorable characters who have flaws and vices but are wholeheartedly good. In fact, the way in which the characters relate to themselves and each other is more astute than most shows featuring actual human beings. It's funny and clever without descending into cynical post-modernism which has infected the past 25 years (or even longer) of television programming (this includes a number of shows I have loved over the years). Though the most important reason is that it makes people happy. Genuinely happy. Recently, on the show's biggest fansite Equestria Daily, they asked "How has Friendship is Magic affected you?" What followed were over 700 different testimonies about how this show has lifted their spirits, helped get themselves out of depressions, given them encouragement to be more social, given them motivation for new or stagnated artistry (the amount of fan art & media dedicated to this show is prodigious) and reaffirmed their faith in the human race as a whole with the show's and fanbase's continual positive spirit. Believe me, if you had told me eight months ago that I would love a show with My Little Pony in the title, I would've looked at you with profound perplexity. Though here I stand, a fan of this show and proud of it. For many people, including myself, this is not just a show. It's a bright beacon of light arising from the depths of this uncertain world (overstated, but true).

Revealing early are we? I totally forgot about Near in death note. IMO he and mello didn't happen. Brad Swaile was asked questions about his take on the rampant yaoi that fans have created for some reason about his character. Considering that near was for the shoutacons and had a suspicious relationship with mello, I wonder how similar questions fielded to this guest will be received. After all, Genshiken.... No reason for this to be the last guest, especially since there should still be one returning guest left to announce...and Karbowski
