All we ask from everyone is to spread the word -- we want to scare the Hyatt (in a good way) this year and double our numbers AGAIN.

Already taken care of, sir! (salutes)

If you haven't seen death note, won't it be awkward getting it signed? I haven't seen all of The Soultaker or Infinite Ryvius yet (because death note diverted me) and it was kinda awkward when, in discussing the shows while signing, Brad Swaile went outside the scope of my knowledge of the show. Chris Ayres actually quizzes attendees on Speed Grapher and doles out a different signature whether or not the attendee has seen the entire show. I guess he's learned.

Though perhaps I'm forgetting that not everyone gets DVDs and licensed merch signed.

You know, the ocean group needs more dubbing work.  I do wish that Sentai would use them over Bang zoom (sorry Tony Oliver lol).

I don't own Death Note... I never said I did... When did I give that impression?

See, I have trouble reconciling that not everyone goes out and loads up on as much of the guests' work to get signed before a con, and then gets as much signed as is possible. Sometimes I even purchase additional items at cons for signature purposes. When I discovered that Death Note had DVD extras and figures bundled, I bought one and resolved to buy them all...eventually.  When I heard Swaile was going to be at a con, I bought half of them in one go and got em all signed.

My con group balances out the people who go and get only their badge or program book signed.   Cool

Also, without owning death note, is there a legal way to watch it dubbed?   Death Note is also sort of an anime staple, something that every right-thinking fan should have on his shelf Wink

More on topic, I'm not sure if the loss of our guest clues is better or worse than having them. Now guessing is harder, but the possibilities are greater.

As I've mentioned before on this site, I have a special notebook where I keep all of my convention signatures. It's a personal treasure of mine. No merchandise required.

Also, without owning death note, is there a legal way to watch it dubbed?

For me, certainly. I'll be able to get it at my local library when I'm good to go.

But that's part of the fun, isn't it?

Library?!  They still have those things, and those things have materials of interest?  Not in my area, the land of library budget cuts and? everyone has a kindle and Netflix".  On that, I believe that Netflix only has the subbed version of death note for streaming.

The ocd collector mentality forbids me from renting a DVD.  Seriously, it boggles the mind.  I can rationalize a fansub but not that.  Which is interesting, to me at least, because a DVD ripped fansub distributed on line is eerily similar to renting a DVD.

That is awful. Libraries are one of America's grandest institutions and should be treated as such. Also, I tried streaming on Netflix for a month and I didn't like it. I prefer to watch stuff on physical formats.

Yep, the newest initiative from my local library system is to provide for lending eBooks to Kindle users via some contrived partnership with Amazon, joining in with other libraries across the nation that apparently already do this.  Sadly I lack a Kindle.  I tried the 1st generation ones and I was not impressed with the eInk nor the low-res screen of the modern Kindle Fire.

Streaming has really changed my anime consumption.  I do wish that Sentai Filmworks didn't believe that anime streaming needs to be gimped to give DVD sales a chance as most of my anime watching these days takes place on devices that can stream but lack dvd drives.  Now I can legally try almost everything, and buy what I want.  I don't miss the days of blind buys or "illegal" previewing.  It's cheaper, too.  Not that frugality is my main concern as an anime fan.  Frustratingly, now that Sentai Filmworks has cryptically announced that a "hit series" today only sells from 2000-3000 physical copies I am inclined to buy more.  With those figures, pretty soon it will be impossible for everyone at Matsuricon to have bought a copy of a particular show, which is rather startling IMO.

I do miss the days when I had stuff for guests to autograph.  I've basically gotten everything signed that I can stomach buying by all the "main" con guests.  I guess that's a good thing, as you never know if you'll encounter a particular guest again.  I'll miss the Eric Vale/Clarine Harp combo this year, and it's particularly brutal as Clarine Harp finally got another lead role in a show.  So did Eric Vale, but thanks to streaming I've learned that Legend of the Legendary Heroes isn't something that I could buy unless it were at SAVE level pricing as it'd be a purchase for the sole purpose of holding a signature.

EDIT:  Again, getting back to the topic at hand, who could the final guest be?

Well, I know who my ultimate get would be, but I don't want to say it for fear of jinxing it. At any rate, there are plenty of great people who have been around in this game for decades. So, I'm excited. It could be anybody.

It could be anybody, but it has to be somebody particularly awesome to live up to the hype I inferred from the official post.

I'm thinking that it has to be an "anime legend", but there aren't too many of those.  This seems like something that goes beyond, say, Vic Mignogna or the Travis Willingham/Laura Bailey duo.  Those guys are cool and all, but this capstone guest seems "mightier".  Maybe I just want the guest to be, though I don't think anyone on my personal dream guest list meets those qualifications.  But hey, maybe the guest will be an "unknown known", a guest that I know to be awesome but just can't think of right now?

I'm going to assume that our "ZOMG super mega awesome" guest is not a J-Guest?  If it's a J-Guest, odds are that I'll never guess.  Just throwing that out there now Wink
