What are Badge Ribbons?

  • Badge Ribbons are ribbons with a foil design imprinted on them and an adhesive strip to attach them to your badge or to the bottom of a chain of ribbons.
  • Badge Ribbons are not a requirement to participate in the convention but they do add a fun new aspect to the con.
  • Most ribbons are created and paid for by attendees outside of the con. Some people will hand them out freely and others are looking for trades.

What can I put on my ribbon?

  • Badge ribbons come in many different designs. You can put a funny quote or a silhouette of your favorite character, maybe even something only your favorite fandom will recognize. The possibilities are endless! (almost)
  • Badge ribbon designs are subject to Matsuricon’s dress code and convention policies, found here.

Rules & Etiquette

  • Please dispose of the paper strips in a proper waste bin.
  • You will not be allowed to charge money for your ribbons unless you are a vendor or artist holding a table in vendors hall or artist alley. You are allowed to trade for other ribbons or have a fun “challenge” to earn a ribbon (i.e. strike your best pose, answer a trivia question, cosplay a specific fandom, etc.)
  • The ribbons can fall off sometimes so it is advised you bring a roll of tape to secure them as you collect or keep an eye on your ribbons. The longer the chain, the heavier they are, and the more likely the glue strips will fail.
  • Please be polite whether you are passing out ribbons or just trying to collect them. This is just a game for an extra bit of fun at the con.
  • If someone declines you for whatever reason, accept their decision politely.
  • If you see someone discreetly passing someone a ribbon or otherwise behaving in such a way to suggest it is secretive, it is rude to ask for one. They might be low on stock or only be giving them to friends. Remember that ribbons cost money to print, so not everyone is going to be giving them freely to just anyone.
  • Polite ways to decline ribbon requests can include “I’m sorry but these were printed specifically for my friends.” or “I’m sorry but my ribbons are only for trading.”
  • The best way to collect ribbons is to have some to trade!

Creating and Ordering Ribbons

Information about the 2022 Matsuricon large order : Submissions are now open until June 19th, 2022 at 11:59pm

Our badge are 3 inches wide, but many people will order a 4 inch wide ribbon, with varying heights. Your image size should be at 34:9 aspect ratio, and in a vector file format, EPS or AI.  If you can’t make the images a vector format, very high resolutions in JPG and PDF are also acceptable. Use as much of the image space as possible, unless you’d like it to be very small, and include any text you want in your design. Ribbons will be printed exactly like the design submitted. Invoices will be sent out promptly after orders close, Payment is due July 3rd any orders not paid for by the order date will not be submitted.
